West Alabama Public Engagement - Working Alternative

The public engagement process generated significant participation on both in-person and virtual levels, generating public input from members of the community with interest in the project. The comments generated from the public meeting reflected support to maintain existing vehicular travel lanes as well as disapproval of any alternative that suggested a reduction of traffic flow in favor of expanded, dedicated right of way for pedestrians and cyclists. The responses from the survey however reflected a strong desire for more dedicated bike and pedestrian infrastructure without promoting any reduction in travel lanes.

As a result of this feedback, we are working to refine an alternative that will attempt to provide both dedicated bike and pedestrian infrastructure while maintaining the existing travel lane configuration to the maximum extent possible. The below cross-sections were developed based on public feedback of the design alternatives presented to the public via the public meeting and online survey.
